Maxon is building its own film festival in the US
Maxon, the movie theater chain, has revealed plans to launch its own cinema festival, based on the same formula as the US Film Festival.
In addition to a series of screenings in cinemas across the US, Maxon will also host film-related events at some of its stores, including a free movie viewing party in its downtown Chicago location, and an annual film festival at its Austin, Texas, location.
Maxon CEO Steve Conrad told Business Insider that the new event will be held in 2019, the same year that the USFilm Festival will end.
Maxon will hold its festival at Maxon Cinemas, which is located at 1801 N. Michigan Ave., in Chicago, according to a news release.
Conrad said the company is looking to host events at theaters in the greater Chicago area, as well as the Twin Cities.
“It’s a big opportunity for us to create a great festival experience for all of our customers, to showcase some of the best films from across the world, and to get them engaged and involved,” Conrad said.
The Maxon Cinema Festival will also feature a screening of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” on August 9, 2019.
Conrad also said that Maxon plans to host screenings of “Citizen Kane” on June 30, 2020.
Maxon’s upcoming event will not be the first time Maxon has taken the lead in creating its own festival.
In March, Conrad announced that the company would create its own video-on-demand platform for video-based entertainment.
Consumers in the United States spend $1.6 billion on movies each year, according the Entertainment Software Association, and the number of Americans watching movies in theaters has grown every year since 2010.
